The star spangled banner, otherwise known as the national anthem for the United States, was written from a poem in 1814 by Francis Scott Key, Defense of Fort McHenry. It was written after the british attacked Fort McHenry.
In the year of 1889, the U.S. Navy recognized it and started using it then. And on March 3, 1991, it became the national anthem. Even though the poem has four stanzas, the first one is most commonly sang. It is very difficult to sing. It was written in 1840 and first printed in 1862.
